What Recruitment Challenges Will You Face Throughout This Year?

2020 has been a huge year of change and adaptation. Whether you’re the CEO of a massive company or you run a small business, you know how hard it can be to attract and keep qualified professionals. During the year, you’ll likely hire and fire, interview, and offer jobs. But in this economy, there are a number of obstacles we can expect throughout 2020.

Skill Gaps

It’s unavoidable – the pandemic has a negative impact on a job seeker’s ability to gain necessary experience. Unemployment rates have drastically increased due to the coronavirus pandemic. You may also notice challenges in hiring related to unemployment benefits. You have certain expectations of your candidates, but what if no one meets them? These days, it will be more common to see gaps in employment and a lack of training for those that have been out of work and unable to gain new training. Our recommendation is to be more flexible. Consider on-the-job training, or paying for pre-employment required training courses to help your new hires be more fit for duty.

Writing an Enticing Ad

Creating the right job posting is half the battle, especially if you are struggling to find talent. Wasting your time on resumes that don’t measure up can be so frustrating when you need to get a new hire in quickly. That is why it is so important to make sure you have the right candidates applying to your open positions. To do this, you need to be very specific in your posting. Ask for exactly what a professional needs to do the job. Too often, hiring managers list dozens of expectations for an entry-level position. Narrow your focus to ask for help where you truly need it.

Catering to Candidates

Facilitating a positive impression of your company with the candidate is more important than you think. You want your applicants to think well of your organization, even if you don’t give them a job. Don’t forget that word travels fast. If you’re not sure what the candidate experience entails, ask! Create a quick exit survey for applicants or have your employees fake an application to check out the flow. The application process should be simple and mobile-friendly, with an interface that clearly explains what you expect of your employees and what skills they need to join your team.
