The most recent study, conducted by consumer website Nerdwallet, ranks Denver as the 4th best city in the country to find a job. Denver is no stranger to being ranked as one of the best cities in the country for jobs and careers. Denver’s central location, natural resources, and large and educated population, are just of the reasons why the city is consistently ranked among the best places for business.
The most recent study looked at a combination of unemployment rate, population growth, and cost of living. Here’s a breakdown of how Denver faired.
- Available jobs. The study looked at each city’s unemployment rate to get a sense of whether there are jobs available. Denver had among the lower unemployment rates in the study, at 5.8%. As the study noted, Denver is home to a large number of thriving industries, including aerospace and manufacturing. There are large companies, such as Bell Corporation and Lockheed Martin, two of the city’s largest employers. There are also thriving entrepreneurs and small businesses, with numerous city and private programs designed to help them succeed.
- Growth. The study looked at population growth to see whether the city was attracting new workers. From 2010 to 2012, Denver’s population grew 604,414 to 634,265, for a growth rate of 4.9%, the 5th highest of the cities listed.
- Affordability. Finally, the study looked at the average home prices and average income to determine whether the city was affordable. Denver scored high in this area. With average monthly homeowner costs of $1,571, and average income for workers of $32,002, Denver ranked as one of the most affordable cities in the study. In fact, the monthly homeowner costs were lower, and the average income higher, than the top-ranked city overall, Austin, Texas.
