Microsoft Master? Companies Want to Hire You!

Are you proficient in the Microsoft Suite? There is definitely a position out there for you! We’re here to talk about what proficiency in these tools means. Candidates must accurately portray their Microsoft abilities for potential employers. Here’s how you can show off those skills and land a great position by showing your technical abilities with Microsoft.

The Microsoft Tools

First, let’s talk about the Microsoft Suite. While Word and Excel are the most prominent tools in this set, it includes the following:

  • Microsoft Excel
  • Microsoft Publisher
  • Microsoft Word
  • Microsoft PowerPoint
  • Microsoft OneNote
  • Other MS skill sets

However, we want to focus on the basics today since those will most commonly be mastered.

Excel

Many companies are seeking a worker that doesn’t need a crash course in Microsoft Excel. Pivot tables are a huge asset in the professional environment. Use this feature to sort and calculate data averages for quick analysis. You should also be able to enter the equations for basic formula functions for mathematical applications. To take it one step further, train yourself in more specific commands like V-Lookup: this allows you to track down sets of data and filter them to prep your info for presentations.

Word

Of course, trusty Microsoft Word is the most popular platform for creating documents. You can claim advanced prowess in Microsoft Word if you’ve mastered formatting – making your page look professional and appealing is important! Make sure you can master fonts, headings and footers, columns within text, tables within a Word doc. Using basic elements for a more appealing design may be important as well. This includes using the Word drawing tools effectively. Additionally, demonstrate knowledge of using Track Changes in a document. Finally, you should also be able to cover the basics, like manipulating font and running spelling and grammar checks.
